Yahoo,Microsoft and Flickr to restrict porn in India

Yahoo,Microsoft and Flickr to restrict porn in IndiaAfter long efforts finally Indian authorities have convinced Microsoft and Yahoo to implement stricter and prohibitive measures to prevent the search of porn on their search engines.

Recently, ‘The Guardian’ has revealed in its reports that Microsoft and Yahoo have already started taking decisive step in this regard. The move is an accordance to the India’s Information Technology Act of 2000, a legislation based on a 150-year-old statute (section 292 of the Indian penal code), that gives the definition of obscenity as “any content that is lascivious and that will appeal to prurient interest or the effect of which is to tend to deprave or corrupt the minds of those who are likely to see, read or hear the same”.

This legislature prohibits the publication of obscene or pornographic material online.

Latest reports suggest that Yahoo search engine, Microsoft’s Bing search engine, and Flickr, recently made alteration to their setting by which Indian users will not be able to switch off the safe-search facility. It should be noted that same type of blockage has also implemented in other countries like Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Now it remains to be seen, that how Indian public responds to this new initiative.
