Very soon all comic lovers will see their favourite animated characters like Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter and so on, on their cell phones.
In a latest happening, Cartoon Network, a leading kid’s entertainment channel, has signed an agreement with Mumbai-based mobile entertainment VAS player Nazara Technologies, to convert printed comic books into a digital format for mobile consumption.
Under the arrangement, Nazara Technologies will provide Cartoon Network’s VAS content on mobile, which includes videos of Cartoon Network TV shows, wallpaper, themes etc.
Commenting on latest development, Nitish Mittersain CEO, Cartoon Network (India) said, “Cartoon Network is not only an integral part of the children’s world in India today but almost every Indian has grown up with comics available to them in a wide array of choice. There are over 400 million mobile phone users in India and a recent survey indicated that a whooping 63% kids use a mobile. Through this initiative, our aim is to reach out to them by providing new products and services, thus enliven one of the oldest and most cherished content formats – comics, now on mobile.
“Having comics on mobile phones will enable people to read their favourite comic even when they are on the move”, he further added.
The newly revealed facility will very soon available on all GPRS enabled phones through leading mobile phone operators across the country, at a minimum charge of INR 1 per day, INR 10 per week and INR 30 per month.
Apart from latest development, Cartoon Network has also plan to introduce a customised java application next year to download an entire Cartoon Network comic on mobile, so that consumer can read it in one go.
