Twitter, the most popular social networking site, has finally acquired Mixer Labs, which was founded by a couple of former Google employees, for an undisclosed amount.
Mixer Labs is the company behind GeoAPI.com, a powerful location engine for developers, and TownMe, a new local information site. The Mixerlabs GeoAPI provides application developers with the ability to query the world. GeoAPI services include a reverse geocoder; deep data about 16 million businesses and tens of thousands of points of interest; a writable layer for developers to annotate the world and do complex geo-queries; and location-enabled media layers.
Commenting on latest development, a company official said, that now Twitter will look forward to integrate the new app with other Twitter applications.
He further stated that, the deal would allow Twitter users to show people where they are located, when they tweets. In addition, the application will also enable twitter users to search where an event is presently going on.
